EP Series Fieldbus Stepper Drive FAQs

The EP series is a family of Rtelligent fieldbus stepper drives that receive motion commands over a network instead of pulse signals. It includes RS-485 models (NT60, NT86, NT110), TCP/IP Ethernet models (EPR60, EPT60, EPR86, EPT86) and EtherCAT models in the ECR and ECT series. The drives have an integrated motion controller function and support torque homing.

Pick by network first. NT models use RS-485 at up to 115200 baud, EPR and EPT models use TCP/IP at 10M/100M, and ECR and ECT models use 100M EtherCAT. In the EP and EC codes, R marks an open loop drive and T a closed loop drive, and the number is the motor frame size, so an ECT60 is an EtherCAT closed loop drive for motors below 60 mm.

Fieldbus control lets one controller manage many axes in a distributed system with fewer connection cables than discrete wiring. Because commands travel as digital serial data over shielded twisted-pair cable, the EP series has stronger resistance to interference and fewer transmission errors, improving control accuracy and reliability. Peak current ranges from 2.5 A on the ECR42 up to 8 A on the NT86, NT110, EPR86 and EPT86.
