Switching Stepper Driver Series R60IR: Technical Overview

The R60IR is a potentiometer speed-control switch drive from the Rtelligent R series. A potentiometer wired to the ENA port sets the running speed and can change it at any time, while IN1 and IN2 start, stop and reverse the motor from plain ON/OFF signals. Built on a 32-bit DSP with PID current control, it drives open-loop stepper motors below 60 mm frame size from a 24~48 V DC supply at up to 5.6 A peak.

The R60IR is a switch stepper driver from the Rtelligent R series in which a potentiometer sets the running speed. IN1 and IN2 take simple ON/OFF signals to start, stop and reverse the motor, so a switch, relay or basic PLC output is enough to run an axis. It suits open-loop stepper motors below 60 mm frame size and needs no pulse generator or motion controller.

The R60IR runs from a 24~48 V DC supply and delivers up to 5.6 A peak per phase. The output current is chosen from 8 DIP switch options, so one drive covers small and large 60 mm frame motors. Speed is set from 16 DIP levels and trimmed live with the potentiometer, and acceleration has two gears.

A pulse-controlled driver needs a controller sending a pulse train to define every move. The R60IR carries its own motion control module: speed comes from the potentiometer and DIP settings, and motion is triggered by an ON/OFF signal. That removes the pulse output, its wiring and the programming behind it from conveyors, feeders and other constant-speed axes.

The R60IR has over-voltage, under-voltage and over-current protection, and the control signals are optically isolated. It calculates the motor resonance point and suppresses intermediate frequency vibration, detects motor parameters at power-up and tunes the current loop to them, filters commands through a 2 MHz digital filter and halves the current once the motor stops so the motor runs cooler.
