The R86IR is the 86 mm frame member of the Rtelligent R-IR potentiometer speed-control family. It accepts either supply, 20~80 V AC or 24~100 V DC, and delivers up to 7.2 A peak per phase, so it drives the larger open-loop stepper motors used on gantries, winders and heavy conveyors. Speed comes from a potentiometer on the ENA port, and IN1 and IN2 start, stop and reverse the motor from plain ON/OFF signals.

The R86IR is a switch stepper driver in which a potentiometer sets the running speed and IN1 and IN2 take simple ON/OFF signals to start, stop and reverse the motor. It is built on a 32-bit DSP with PID current control and drives open-loop stepper motors below 86 mm frame size, so larger axes run without a pulse generator or motion controller.

The R86IR accepts either an AC or a DC supply: 20~80 V AC or 24~100 V DC. Output current is set by DIP switch from 8 options up to 7.2 A peak. A higher supply voltage holds more torque at speed, while a lower one keeps the motor cooler on slow axes.

Both use the same potentiometer speed control and the same DIP switch scheme. The R60IR runs motors below 60 mm from 24~48 V DC at up to 5.6 A, while the R86IR runs motors below 86 mm, accepts 20~80 V AC as well as 24~100 V DC and delivers up to 7.2 A peak. The choice follows the motor frame size and the supply available in the panel.

The R86IR has over-voltage, under-voltage and over-current protection with optically isolated control signals. It calculates the resonance point and suppresses intermediate frequency vibration, detects motor parameters at power-up, filters commands through a 2 MHz digital filter and halves the current after the motor stops. It is rated IP54 and runs from 0 to 45 degrees Celsius.
